Ci Poems

dìng fēng bō
定风波

mò tīng chuān lín dǎ yè shēng,
héfáng yín xiào qiě xúxíng.
zhú zhàng máng xié qīng shèng mǎ,
shéi pà?
yī suō yānyǔ rèn píngshēng.

liàoqiào chūnfēng chuī jiǔ xǐng,
wēi lěng,
shāntóu xié zhào què xiāng yíng.
huíshǒu xiàng lái xiāosè chù,
guī qù,
归去,
yě wú fēngyǔ yě wú qíng.

To The Tune of Ding Feng Bo (Pacified The Storm)
Su Dongpo (1037-1101 AD)
(On the seventh day of March, we were caught in a rain on Shahu road. Servants with rain gear had left. My accompanies were in dismay. Only I didn't feel that way. After a while rain stopped. I composed this Ci poem.)

Don't mind rain tapping trees and whipping leaves,
Why not stroll in it chanting and singing.
Straw sandals and bamboo cane are lighter and better than a horse,
Who is afraid?
With a straw raincoat I can sustain the mist and rain of life.

The chilly spring breeze sober me up,
A bit cold,
On the top of mountain the setting sun is welcoming.
Looking back at the bleak mountain pass we survived,
Go back,
It's indifferent to me if it storms or shines.
