In this video, I am going to introduce 33 HSK level 2 Characters, 9 Chinese Radicals-部首 (日,月,曰,阝,氵,酉,音,耂,里), and 11 components - 组件(春,活,澡,阴,普,队,育,音,更,且,者). These 33 characters are also the word roots for 69 level 2 words and the word roots for 389 HSK words in total.

  1. The character 春 is the sound component of the character 蠢.
  2. The character 普 is the sound component of the character 谱.
  3. The character 阴 is the sound component of the character 荫.

🎯 Some radicals are characters by themselves and they are continued to be used individually as a character, such as 日、月、水、手、等.
🎯 Some radicals are evolved from characters. Now they are placed at specific position of a character, such as 氵、耂.
  1. "曰" and "日" are very similar. The radical 曰 is commonly known as "扁日旁(biǎn rì páng)", which literally means "the flat radical 日". Chinese characters with this radical are usually related to "to say, speech", etc.
    📘 In the the oracle bone script, the upper part of the character "曰" depicts a mouth (口), and the short horizontal bar on the top represents the voice. The original meaning is "to say, to speak".
  2. Chinese characters having the radical 酉(yǒu) are often related to liquor or foods made by fermentation.
    📘 The oracle bone script of 酉 is like a liquor jar. The original meaning is "liquor".
  3. The radical 音 is commonly known as "音字旁(yīn zì páng)". Chinese characters with this radical are usually related to "sound, tone".
    📘 The oracle bone script, character 音 consists of the character 言 (speech) and a horizontal stroke above 言. 音 means to make a sound.
  4. The radical 耂 is Commonly known as "老字旁 (lǎo zì páng)". Chinese characters with this radical are usually related to "senior, elder".
    📘 "耂" is originated from the character "老". The oracle bone script of "老" depicts a long-haired senior man with a walking cane.
  5. The radical 里 is commonly known as "里字旁 (lǐ zì páng)". Chinese characters with this radical are usually related to village, local place.
    📘 The character 里 means "the place where people live". The upper part of the character is 田, meaning "field"; and the lower part is 土, meaning "soil".
  6. The radical "日" is commonly known as 日字旁(Rì Zì Páng). Chinese characters having the radical 日 are usually related to the sun or time.
  7. The radical 氵 is commonly known as 三点水(sān diǎn shuǐ). Chinese characters with this radical are usually related to water or liquid. "氵" is originated from the character "水", which means flowing water.
  8. The radical 月 is commonly known as 月字旁(Yuè Zì Páng). Most of characters having it are related to flesh (肉-ròu), such as 腿, 胳膊; A few of them are related to the moon or time, such as 期, 望; And very few are boat (舟-zhōu) miswritten as 月, such as 服, 朕.
  9. The radical 阝 (Fǔ) is commonly known as "双耳旁"(shuāng ěr páng). Characters with the left-side 阝 are usually related to hill (阜-Fù). Characters with the right-side 阝 are usually related to city (邑-Yì).

🌿词根


"或者" is used when the speaker talks about different possibilities, choices or alternatives. It is used in declarative sentences.
  • 请给我发短信或者打电话。
    Please send me a text message or give me a call.
  • 你信或者不信都没关系。
    It doesn't matter whether you believe it or not.

  • To emphasize the comparison, the degree adverb 更 can be placed before the adjective or verb.
  • 这个手机便宜,就买它吧。
    This phone is cheaper, take this one.
  • 他比你喜欢读书。
    He likes reading more than you do.

  • The conjunction 而且 can be used to join two phrases, clauses, or related statements together.
  • 他会说汉语,而且说得很好。
    He speaks Chinese and speaks very well.
  • 他是我的同学,而且帮过我很多忙。
    He is my classmate and has helped me a lot.

  • Note:
    🎯 Some Chinese characters use different tones to express different parts of speech and meanings.
    1. When used as a verb, 量 is pronounced in the 2nd tone 📢"liáng", meaning "to measure".
      When used as a noun, 量 is pronounced in the 4th tone 📢"liàng", meaning "capacity 🔸quantity".
    2. When used as a verb, 更 is pronounced in the 1st tone 📢"gēng", meaning "to change".
      When used as an adv., 更 is pronounced in the 4th tone 📢"gèng", meaning "even more 🔸further".
    3. When used as an adj., 脏 is pronounced in the 1st tone 📢"zāng", meaning "dirty 🔸filthy".
      When used as a noun, 脏 is pronounced in the 4th tone 📢"zàng", meaning "internal organs".
    4. When used as a verb, 背 is pronounced in the 1st tone 📢"bēi", meaning "to carry on the back".
      When used as a noun, 背 is pronounced in the 4th tone 📢"bèi", meaning "body's back 🔸back side of an object".
    5. When used as a verb, 漂📢"piāo" means "to float"; 漂📢"piǎo" means "to bleach".
      When used as an adj., 漂 is pronounced in the 4th tone 📢"piào", meaning "elegant".
    Understanding Chinese radicals, components and word roots can help you better understand the formation of characters and the structure of words. By using them as the basic building blocks, you can gradually build up your vocabulary.
