(Cui Hao, The Yellow Crane Tower)

Tang Poems

The Yellow Crane Tower

by Cui Hao (704-754 AD)

The legendary immortal has flown away on the back of a yellow crane,
What left in this place is only the Yellow Crane Tower.
Once gone the yellow crane has never returned,
The white clouds, for a thousand years, have been drifting on the sky.
Across the river under the sunlight are trees in Hangyang vivid and clear,
Fresh and flourishing are the meadows on the Parrot Islet.
As the sun sets I wonder where is my homeland,
Looking at the mist and ripples on the river my heart turns heavy.
