打开 is a Verb-Complement Type Separable Word 动补型离合词. The result complement 开 is used after the verb. The word means to open up something.
The aspect particle 了 is put after the whole separable verb to express the completion of an action.

Unlike verb-object type separable verbs, in verb-complement type separable verbs, the aspect particles 了, 过 and the object are placed after the whole separable verb, not between the two parts.

As a result complement, 见 is usually used after sensory verbs to indicate that the action has a result.
